About

Who we are and how we work.

The practice

Effective Data Consulting is a data and AI consultancy working with startups and established enterprises. We take on strategy, architecture, governance, and implementation work — usually some combination, because the boundary between advice and delivery is where most consulting engagements fail.

We are deliberately small. Engagements are led by the person doing the work, not handed to a delivery team after the sale.

Principal

Paul Raff leads the practice. He has worked on data and machine learning systems at both large enterprises and early-stage companies, which is the reason the two tracks on this site exist: the constraints are genuinely different, and advice that ignores that is not worth much.

How we work

We say what we think. If a project is not worth doing, or the thing you asked for is not the thing you need, we say so early. That is the main reason to hire an outside party.

We build, not just advise. Recommendations are grounded in what is technically achievable in your environment, because we expect to help implement them.

We hand over properly. Every engagement ends with your team able to operate what was built. Documentation, runbooks, and working sessions are part of scope, not an upsell.

We stay independent. No vendor relationships, no referral fees, no incentive to recommend one platform over another.
